An archive of the 20th century, documents that have survived the passage of time, catalogued and preserved for the future.
Fragile yet powerful traces. Records of war, of ideals, of dreams, of death.
The archivist is the link between us and the papers, the stories, the lives. Their mind is full of stories. Where does their personal memory begin, and where does that of the archive end?
The archivist preserves the papers so that they may still speak … but if someone approaches them with too much emotion, the very purpose of the archive risks being undermined.
The film is a poetic reflection on memory, as a bridge between the future and the past, between death and life. On the evocative power of documents. On the civic importance of archives, but also on their inevitable incompleteness.
The film was shot in collaboration with the Istituto PIemontese per la Storia della Resistenza e della Società Contemporanea Giorgio Agosti in Turin.
It was developed as part of Archidoc, a screenwriting workshop at La Fémis, the École Nationale supérieure de l’image et du Son.
