14 nominations for "La Grazia" by Paolo Sorrentino, filmed in part in Piemonte with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte.
The nominations for the David di Donatello 2026, the Oscar of Italian cinema, have been announced. The nominations cover films released in cinemas from January 1 to December 31, 2025, voted on from March 1 to 15, 2026 by the Academy's jurors. Among the nominees, several projects that in various ways involve Piemonte and were supported by Film Commission Torino Piemonte.
Standing out is "La Grazia" by Paolo Sorrentino, filmed in part in Piemonte with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte, which receives 14 nominations: best film, director, original screenplay, lead actress, lead actor, supporting actress, casting, cinematography, set design, costumes, make-up, editing, visual effects, and the David Giovani award. "La Grazia" , written and directed by Academy Award winner Paolo Sorrentino — the opening film of the 82nd Venice Film Festival, which earned the Coppa Volpi for lead actor Toni Servillo — is set in Rome, but filmed almost all of its interior scenes of political buildings in Torino, specifically the various rooms of the Palazzo del Quirinale where the protagonist resides.
The shoot engaged the region for 27 days, from March 7 to April 9, 2025, involving the Accademia delle Scienze, the Bocciofila La Tesoriera, the Casa Circondariale Lorusso e Cutugno, the Castello del Valentino, and the Castello di Moncalieri — with the collaboration of the Regional Network of Film Commission Torino Piemonte — along with Palazzo Chiablese and the Musei Reali Torino, in particular Palazzo Reale. Several local actors and extras were involved, alongside numerous Piemontese professionals across various crew departments who worked on set.
Written and directed by Academy Award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino and starring Toni Servillo and Anna Ferzetti, "La Grazia" is a Fremantle film, produced by The Apartment, a Fremantle group company, in association with Numero 10 and PiperFilm, filmed in part in Piemonte with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte. PiperFilm handled distribution in Italy, while MUBI holds worldwide rights excluding Italy; The Match Factory manages international sales.
"Queer" by Luca Guadagnino — which filmed some scenes in Piemonte in January 2024 at The Studios sound stages in Torino and at a private villa in Valenza — received nominations for best original score by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, best original song for Vaster than Empires performed by Caetano Veloso, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, best make-up, best hairstyling, and best visual effects.
Among the other films involving Piemonte and its professionals in the running for awards: "Duse" by Pietro Marcello — with Torino-born Valeria Bruni Tedeschi nominated as Best Lead Actress both for this film and for "Cinque secondi" — "La città proibita" by Gabriele Mainetti, and on the music front, a nomination for Levante for "Follemente".
The David di Donatello award ceremony will be hosted by Bianca Balti and Flavio Insinna and broadcast live from the Cinecittà studios on Wednesday May 6 in prime time on Rai 1, as well as on Rai Radio2, and available for streaming on the RaiPlay platform.
