The first Green Film Lab 2026 arrives in Torino, from April 17 to 19, the workshop that brings together cinema and sustainability.
The Open Session on Saturday April 18 is open to local professionals.
Among the 6 selected projects, “Inverno” by Matteo Tortone, supported by Film Commission Torino Piemonte — Piemonte Film Tv Development Fund.
After touring Europe with 11 workshops in as many cities since 2022, TorinoFilmLab brings Green Film Lab to Torino — the programme that unites cinema and sustainability. From April 17 to 19, the first edition of 2026 will take place under the Mole, where TFL has been operating since 2008 with the support of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema.
Organised together with Green Film — Trentino Film Commission, with the support of Creative Europe — MEDIA Sub-programme of the European Union and in collaboration with ACE Producers, EAVE and EcoProd, Green Film Lab promotes good sustainable production practices, providing practical tools for implementing a green protocol and obtaining certification.
Leading the tutor team is Giovanni Pompili (Italy) — producer at Kino Produzioni and TFL alumnus — accompanied by Dörte Schneider Garcia (Portugal/Germany), expert assistant director and sustainability consultant; Louise Marie Smith (United Kingdom), founder of Neptune Environmental Solutions, specialising in environmental management systems and sustainable practices for the high-end film and TV series industry; and Lucie Trémolières (France), writer and director specialising in eco-narration and the diverse emotional responses to the environmental crisis.
Among the 6 selected projects, three are Italian titles: “Inverno” by Matteo Tortone — supported by Film Commission Torino Piemonte – Piemonte Film Tv Development Fund — represented by producer Alessandro Carroli and screenwriter and story editor Zelia Zbogar of the Torinese company EIE Film, already participants in FeatureLab 2025; “Il Nido” by Claudio Giovannesi, brought to Green Film Lab by Valeria Beraldo and Sofia Rivolta, respectively Head of Co-production and Film Funding and Coordinating Producer at Indiana Production; and “Bambino maialino”, the second feature by director and producer Maria Giménez Cavallo — previously assistant director to Abdellatif Kechiche and Pietro Marcello — produced by Berta Film.
In true TFL spirit of international exchange, the Italian titles will be joined by three international films that already have co-production interest and ongoing dialogue with Italy: “Concrete Music”, presented by Viktorija Seniut Stroliene and Laura Vrubliauskaitė, producer and producer's assistant at Viktoria Films (Lithuania), directed by Saulius Baradinskas — co-produced by Lumen Film of Rome; “Priceless”, presented by director Paul-Răzvan Macovei and producer Tudor Hermeneanu of Armadillo Entertainment (Romania) — co-produced with Ombre Rosse of Cagliari. Completing the group of six teams is “The Hottest Summer In History” by director Tommaso Pitta, participating with producer Katie Hodgkin of Steel Made Films Ltd (United Kingdom).
The programme will also involve 5 audiovisual professionals, two of them Italian: Torinese Matteo Tortone, producer at Malfè Film and director of “Inverno”, and Vincenzo Filippo, Head of Original Content & Business Affairs at Lupin Film, already a participant in Boost IT Lab 2025; Nelson Ghrénassia, producer at Yukunkun Productions (France), who took part in the TFL Alpi Film Lab programme in 2022; Esma Hajdarpasic, Production Manager at Staragara Production (Slovenia); and Katerina Tzourou, producer at Neda Film (Greece).
The group is completed by 6 profiles from the environmental sustainability sector: Italians Valentina Damiana Geissa and Nadia Mirabella, along with Stefano Picchi (Italy), Laurie Martin (United Kingdom), Maria Victoria Padilla (Argentina/France), and Kira Ruohonen (Finland/Austria). Also joining are Germana Girelli (Project Manager and Strategic Advisor at Lucania Film Commission, Italy) and Ekin Gündüz Özdemirci (Founder of EkoFilm: Sustainable Production Platform, Turkey).
The workshop aims to promote sustainability in both national and co-productions — increasingly relevant for producers — as demonstrated by the 24 participants involved: 12 from Italy and 12 representing Argentina, Finland, France, Greece, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Romania, Slovenia and Turkey. They will gather in Torino for three days of workshops combining plenary sessions and group work. The Green Film Lab Torino cohort is two-thirds female — 16 women and 8 men professionals — united by a shared commitment to developing a more mindful and conscious approach, not only to the environment, but to their everyday working practice.
The exchange of experiences and expertise — at the heart of the TFL method — will also animate the OPEN SESSION open to Piemontese professionals, taking place on Saturday April 18 from 9:00 AM at Casa del Quartiere Barrito, featuring a series of talks on various aspects of sustainable filmmaking, including a session on the role of the Sustainability Manager led by Dörte Schneider Garcia, and a presentation of the Green Film Protocol by Luca Ferrario, director of Trentino Film Commission and founder of Green Film.
To strengthen its commitment to environmental and social sustainability, TFL has chosen partners for the organisation of Green Film Lab in Torino that bring their own projects and values to share and support:
Casa del Quartiere Barrito (via Tepice 23/c, Torino) — A space for meeting, culture and social inclusion, designed to offer the community concrete opportunities for socialisation, training and growth. Through the non-profit association "Il giardino di Titta", its managers have since 2004 been carrying out educational, health and nutritional projects in Chad, promoting solidarity and sustainable development for local communities.
Jigeenyi (via Borgo Dora 3/o, Torino) — Managed by the Renken Association, this is an intercultural space, bar and restaurant, aimed at showcasing African cuisines and promoting women's empowerment through cultural, educational and professional pathways.
Vasté Bistrò — Giacosa (via Giacosa 38, Torino) — A commitment to sustainably farmed products, worker wellbeing and the workplace inclusion of vulnerable individuals makes Vasté a high social-impact enterprise. The bistro on via Giacosa is housed within the Fondazione Agnelli and looks out over the green tranquillity of the Parco del Valentino.
