Pietro, forty years old, known as “Vangò,” is a taciturn inmate with a natural talent for drawing. On semi-release, he works at a plant nursery, tending the plants as he observes the world: in silence. In prison he is respected by fellow inmates and tolerated by officers, often violent and sarcastic. By his side are Nicola, ironic and full of life, and Francis, his dead brother who accompanies him like a ghost. The suspension of outside work forces everyone back into an overcrowded, suffocating prison. Tensions erupt into a riot that exposes the institution’s brutality. Pietro witnesses the collective degradation as Francis’s ghost urges him to remain invisible. The violence engulfs Nicola and forces the officer Guido into an irreversible choice. In the end, Pietro makes a lucid and desperate gesture against a world built on oppression.

The project Where Do We Want to Start? is directly connected to the 2010 film Pietro and serves as its continuation - a sort of "Pietro 2." The idea for this film stems from a question, both natural and surreal at once, which has emerged with increasing force and urgency over the years: what is Pietro doing now, 15 years later? Where is he? What is he thinking? How does he live in the present and re-live the past? It is as if Pietro were not merely a fictional character, but a real person who continued to live after the closing credits of the first film. The film is designed to be accessible both to those familiar with its origins (Pietro, 2009) and to those who have not (yet) seen the first installment. The plot unfolds without the need for prior knowledge of its roots.
